FAQ

FAQ

Which American destination is best for a first trip? +
The US East Coast (New York + Boston + Niagara) remains the simplest format for a first transatlantic trip: 7-hour flight, English spoken everywhere, mature infrastructure. For something culturally fresher, Mexico (Yucatán) or Cuba.
When to go to the Americas for sunshine? +
December to March for the Southern hemisphere (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peruvian coast). May to October for the Northern hemisphere (USA, Canada). Year-round for Mexico (Riviera Maya), Costa Rica and Cuba, avoiding June-October (cyclones).
Which South American country is cheapest? +
Peru and Colombia are cheapest: €30 to 50 per day in comfort on the ground, excluding flights. Argentina fluctuates with the USD-peso rate, sometimes very cheap, sometimes expensive. Mexico outside Riviera Maya remains very affordable.
Do you need an ESTA for the USA in 2026? +
Yes, mandatory for any tourist stay under 90 days by plane (Visa Waiver Program). Apply online via the official website only, USD 21, valid 2 years for multiple entries. Minimum 72 h before departure.
How much does a US trip cost for 2 weeks? +
Around €3,500 to 6,000 for 2 people in comfort, flight from Paris included. Hotels are expensive in big cities (€150 to 250 per night), dining costly, but fuel and car rental remain reasonable.
Is Peru doable in 14 days? +
Yes. Tested format: Lima 2 days + Cusco / Sacred Valley 4 days + Machu Picchu 1 day + Puno / Titicaca 2 days + Arequipa 2 days + Lima return. With a few domestic flights to save time. Budget: €2,500 to 3,500 per person.
Cuba in 2026, still worth it? +
Yes but conditions have tightened: shortages (fuel, medicines), variable infrastructure, payments almost entirely in USD or EUR cash. The trip remains fascinating for those who accept these constraints. Favour casas particulares over hotels. Havana + Trinidad + Viñales over 10 days is the most tested format.
Is the Amazon dangerous for travellers? +
The vast majority of Amazon circuits (Iquitos in Peru, Manaus in Brazil, Leticia in Colombia) are safe. Deforestation and conflicts linked to illegal gold mining exist but rarely affect lodge-based travellers. Main risks: health-related (malaria, dengue) and logistical (slow transport).
