Calendar

When to go to Jordan

Mediterranean climate in the north, desert climate in the center and south. The two optimal windows are March-May (blooming spring, 20-28 °C) and September-November (mild autumn, 22-30 °C). To avoid: June-August (45 °C at Petra and Wadi Rum, suffocating Dead Sea swimming), December-February (cold at Petra, occasional snow, but Aqaba remains pleasant at 20 °C).

FAQ

FAQ

Does the Jordan Pass really replace the visa in 2026? +
Yes, provided you stay at least 3 nights in Jordan (and buy the pass online before arrival at jordanpass.jo). The Jordan Pass costs 70, 75 or 80 JOD depending on Petra access (1, 2 or 3 days). It includes the entry visa (40 JOD) and access to 40 archaeological sites including Petra, Jerash, Wadi Rum (entry), Aqaba (fortress), the desert castles. Almost always pays off as soon as you visit Petra + Jerash.
How many days do you need in Jordan? +
Minimum 7 days for Amman + Petra (2 days) + Wadi Rum + Dead Sea. 10 days is ideal to add Jerash, Aqaba (Red Sea) and Dana Reserve. 14 days lets you cover everything at a relaxed pace including desert castles and Wadi Mujib.
When to go to Jordan? +
March-May (spring, 20-28 °C, blooming desert) and September-November (autumn, 22-30 °C) are the two optimal windows. June-August: unbearable at Petra and Wadi Rum (45 °C). December-February: cold at Petra and Amman (occasional snow), but Aqaba stays pleasant at 20 °C for diving.
Is Jordan safe in 2026? +
Yes. The country is one of the most stable in the Middle East and has welcomed tourism for 50 years. France Diplomatie only advises against border zones with Syria and Iraq (northeast, no touristic interest). Standard pickpocket vigilance in Amman. Tourist sites (Petra, Wadi Rum, Dead Sea, Aqaba) are well secured with tourist police.
Should you rent a car in Jordan? +
Recommended for flexibility. Roads in good shape, English signage, right-hand traffic. €35-50/day for a compact. Alternative: private driver for 10 days at €700-900 (very common and comfortable). The JETT public bus covers Amman-Petra-Aqaba but forces detours.
How much for a Wadi Rum Bedouin camp night? +
From €40 (basic camp with dinner + breakfast, shared Berber tent) to €400 in bubble luxotel (transparent domes for stargazing, private bathroom, refined meal). €80-120 for a good value option (private tent, clean facilities, 4x4 included). Book 1-2 months ahead in high season.
Can you combine Jordan and Israel? +
Yes, via 3 land borders: Allenby Bridge (Amman-Jerusalem), Sheikh Hussein (Amman-Tiberias) and Yitzhak Rabin/Wadi Araba (Aqaba-Eilat). Plan 4-6h crossing excluding queues. Check current security with France Diplomatie. Option to combine Jordan + Egypt (Sinai) via Aqaba-Nuweiba ferry.
Need a separate visa without the Jordan Pass? +
Yes. Visa on arrival 40 JOD (~€52) at Amman Queen Alia airport, cash only (USD, EUR or JOD accepted). Single-entry visa valid 30 days. Beyond 30 days, extension possible at the local police station.
