Patagonia: one of the most beautiful regions in the world
Perito Moreno glacier at El Calafate, Laguna de los Tres trek facing Fitz Roy at El Chaltén, end of the world at Ushuaia. Open November to March, closed the rest of the year.
Iguazu Argentine side = 80% of the falls
The Argentine walkways (Parque Nacional Iguazú) run right along the Devil's Throat. Brazilian side: panoramic view in 2-3 hours. Ideal is both sides over 2 days.
Mendoza: home of Malbec
Over 1,200 bodegas at the foot of the Andes. Winery tours, gourmet asados, torrontés tastings in Cafayate. April-May for harvest season.
Buenos Aires, the Paris of the South
Haussmann architecture, Recoleta and its cemetery, San Telmo and tango, hip Palermo, El Ateneo bookstore in a former theatre. One of Latin America's finest capitals.
Inflation = very low prices for visitors
With the strongly devalued peso and the Western Union rate that tracks the parallel market, traveling in Argentina is exceptionally accessible in 2026. A full asado costs €12-18, a boutique hotel night €60-80.
Calendar
Southern hemisphere, so seasons are reversed. Austral summer (November-March): Patagonia is open, this is the essential window for El Calafate, Chaltén and Ushuaia. Austral autumn (March-May): grape harvest in Mendoza, spectacular colors. Austral winter (June-August): skiing at Bariloche and Las Leñas, but most of southern Patagonia closed. Buenos Aires and Iguazu can be visited year-round.

Destinations
By traveler profile
Buenos Aires + Iguazu + Bariloche work from age 7-8. Southern Patagonia more demanding (treks, winds). Long distances: prioritize Aerolíneas Argentinas domestic flights.
Luxury estancias in Patagonia (Eolo near Perito Moreno, Awasi Iguazu), high-end bodegas in Mendoza (Cavas Wine Lodge), private tango in Buenos Aires. Budget €6,000-12,000 for 14 days.
With the devalued peso, Argentina is backpack-friendly again. Hostels €12-20, long-distance buses (Cama Suite) €30-60 for 1,000 km. Plan €1,500 for 14 days excluding flights.
Very solo-friendly in Buenos Aires, more isolated Patagonia but social hostels in El Chaltén and Ushuaia. Basic Spanish very useful. Safety decent outside sensitive BA neighborhoods.
Laguna de los Tres (Chaltén, 20 km round trip, 9h, free), Laguna Torre, Cerro Castillo. Off-the-beaten-track possible on Chilean side (Torres del Paine, 5 days). Nov-March season only.
Mendoza bodegas (Catena Zapata, Bodega Salentein), Cafayate torrontés, legendary Buenos Aires parrillas (Don Julio, La Cabrera). October-May ideal, harvest March-April.
