How to get around
This itinerary runs almost entirely on comfortable buses (Giant Ibis, Mekong Express), for about €90 over 14 days. The legs are long but the main roads are good. Only Koh Rong needs a ferry from Sihanoukville. Book buses the day before in high season.
Bus Siem Reap → Battambang
$8 · 3 h · Khmer countryside
Bus Battambang → Phnom Penh
$10 · 5.5 h · Giant Ibis
Bus Phnom Penh → Kampot
$8 · 3 h · or scenic train
Ferry Sihanoukville → Koh Rong Sanloem
$25 · 45 min · check the weather in monsoon
Adapt by season
This itinerary ends on the islands (Koh Rong), at their best from November to April: calm sea, reliable ferries. From May to October the monsoon stirs the gulf and crossings can be cancelled, so keep Kampot and Kep but shorten the island or reverse the order to finish with the temples. Angkor stays workable all year, greener and quieter under the rain.
