How do you get to Djerba? +
Direct flight Paris-Djerba (DJE) in about 3 h, several airlines in season. Otherwise by road: free Jorf-Ajim ferry (15 min) or 7-km Roman causeway from Zarzis. Long-distance Tunis-Djerba bus in 8-9 h.
Should you rent a car in Djerba? +
Almost essential. The island is 514 km², public transport is rare, taxis pricey per ride. €25-40/day for a compact, agencies at the airport and Houmt Souk. Scooter possible (€15-25/day) for shorter distances.
Is Djerba safe for travelers? +
Yes, the island is one of the most peaceful destinations in Tunisia. Standard market vigilance, watch the sun in summer. The Ghriba Synagogue is guarded year-round by Tunisian security forces without disturbance to visitors.
When to avoid Djerba? +

Do you need a visa for Tunisia? +
No for French and EU nationals: 90 days visa-free with a passport valid 3 months past the exit date. See our [Tunisia visa guide](/en/destinations/tunisia/practical/visa-tunisia/) for other nationalities.
