How to get around
A month lets you mix fast trains, an overnight desert train, shared taxis over the passes and two domestic flights for the country's far ends (Termez to the south, Aral to the north). Count ~€400 of transport over 30 days.
Afrosiyob between Silk Road cities
~€37 · 2h08 · Tashkent-Samarkand-Bukhara
Taxi over the Kamchik pass (Fergana)
~€15 shared · mountain road
Train Bukhara → Nukus
~€25 · 7-8 h · desert crossing
Aral Sea 4x4 expedition
~€180 · 2 days · yurt night at Moynaq
Domestic flights (Termez, return)
~€55 each · for the country's far ends
Adapt by season
The grand tour mixes desert (Kyzylkum, Aral Sea) and mountains (Fergana, Tian Shan). From April to June, the mountains are green and the passes clear; in September-October, the desert becomes bearable again. Avoid July-August, when Karakalpakstan tops 45°C, and winter for the snowy passes. The ideal window stays May and September.
