How to get around
The Rockies are done by car, with no practical alternative. Expect ~800 km on a loop from Calgary, on beautiful easy mountain roads. The Parks Canada pass (€75) covers Banff and Jasper. Moraine Lake is only accessible by shuttle from June to October.

Adapt by season
The Canadian Rockies are best visited from mid-June to mid-September: open roads, thawed turquoise lakes, walkable trails. July-August are the busiest. Aim for the 15-30 June or 1-15 September windows for fewer people. In winter, the Icefields Parkway stays open but requires snow tyres and careful driving, and Lake Louise turns into a giant skating rink. Moraine Lake is only accessible by shuttle from June to October.
