How to get around
Over 30 days, this tour combines 3 Viazul buses, several colectivos and 1 domestic flight for the return from the east (otherwise 2 bus days). Count ~€450 to €650 of transport. Confirm each departure the day before, fuel stays unpredictable in 2026.
Viazul bus main routes
€16 to €28 · Havana, Camagüey, Santiago · air-conditioned
Central colectivos
€20 to €50 · faster than the bus between small towns
Colectivo La Farola (Santiago → Baracoa)
~€40 · 4h30 · dramatic mountain road
Domestic flight back to Havana
~€90 · Cubana or Aerogaviota · saves 2 bus days
Valle de los Ingenios tourist train
~€10 · departs Trinidad
Adapt by season
This grand tour heads east (Santiago, Baracoa), hotter and wetter than the west. From December to April, the east stays pleasant, 27 to 31°C. From June to October, Baracoa and the Oriente get heavy rain and storm risk peaks in September-October, a window to avoid for this part of the route. If you travel in summer, shorten the east and keep the better-sheltered west.
