Shorter, longer
1 week
Amman, Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea. The essential format.
2 weeks
The whole country, from the desert castles to the Dana reserve.
1 month
Jordan in depth: hikes, deserts and the Red Sea.
How to get around
Two weeks run self-drive from Amman: the country is small, the roads good, and the freedom enables the desert castle loop and the King's Highway stops. The Jordan Pass covers the visa and every major site.
Jordan Pass
~€100 · visa + 40 sites · buy online before departure
Rental car
€35-55/day · French licence accepted · ideal everywhere
Hiking at Dana
guide advised for long treks · short marked trails self-guided
Camp 4×4 (Wadi Rum)
included in the night · the only access to the protected desert
Adapt by season
Over two weeks with hiking (Dana, Wadi Mujib, Petra trails), spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) are ideal: 20 to 28°C, open trails. Wadi Mujib (the water siq) closes in winter due to flash floods, roughly November to March. Summer bakes in the deserts and the Dead Sea; winter is mild by day but cold at night at Wadi Rum. Check the Mujib opening for your dates.
