A short week: two domestic flights bookend the itinerary, and a fast ferry links the two islands. In the Philippines, flying saves whole days over slow sea connections.

Adapt by season

Adapting the itinerary to the season

Palawan is best from December to May: flat sea, boat tours almost guaranteed every day. From June to October, keep the same route but plan 1 buffer day: El Nido to Coron crossings get cancelled in rough weather, and the fast ferry is sometimes suspended. If a typhoon is forecast, switch to Cebu and Bohol, which are more sheltered.

What I would redo (and change)

✅ Would redo

  • • In March 2024, the 8am El Nido to Coron ferry left on time despite the swell, while the afternoon one was cancelled. Always aim for the morning departure for the crossing.
  • • Stay in Corong-Corong rather than central El Nido: 10 minutes more, but far calmer sunsets.
  • • Book domestic flights weeks ahead: they sell out fast and prices double last minute.

⚠️ Would change

  • • Skip Tour A if you're there on a busy weekend: the lagoons get crowded, prefer the airier Tour C.
  • • On 7 days, don't try to add Cebu or Bohol: transfers would eat two whole days.
  • • Swap the fast ferry for a 4-day El Nido-Coron cruise if you have 3 extra days.

Is one week in the Philippines enough? +
Yes for a first time focused on Palawan (El Nido and Coron). The archipelago has over 7,000 islands: trying to add the Visayas in 7 days would lose two days in transport.
Ferry or plane between El Nido and Coron? +
The fast ferry (3h30-4h, ~€35) is enough and offers fine scenery. There's no direct flight between the two. In rough weather, check the day before: crossings are cancelled above a certain swell.
Which airport to reach El Nido? +
Lio Airport (ENI) takes AirSWIFT flights from Manila and Cebu. Otherwise Puerto Princesa (PPS) with more flights, then 5 to 6 hours of van to El Nido.
Is this itinerary family-friendly? +
Yes from age 6-7: short boat tours, calm beaches at Nacpan, shallow lakes at Coron. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and UV rash guards for children.
What's the best period? +
From December to May, dry season: flat sea and daily boat tours. Avoid August to October, typhoon peak on Palawan's west coast.
