Adapt by season

Palawan or Visayas, depending on the month

This itinerary chains Palawan (west coast) then the Visayas (Cebu, Bohol). From December to May, everything works. From June to October, Palawan takes typhoons first: start with Cebu and Bohol, more sheltered, and keep Palawan for the end while watching the forecast. The Oslob whale sharks and Moalboal sardines are seen year-round.

Author tips

What I would redo (and change)

✅ Would redo

  • In February 2025, the Moalboal sardine ball was visible by 8am just 5 fin-kicks from the beach: no boat needed, just mask and snorkel. The best free snorkeling of the trip.
  • Stay in Panglao (Bohol) rather than Tagbilaran: beaches and boat trips are 5 minutes away.
  • Keep Bohol for the end: gentler pace, perfect before the return flight.

⚠️ Would change

  • Think twice about Oslob (fed whale sharks): some prefer to skip it on ethical grounds.
  • Skip Coron if the weather turns and stay an extra day in El Nido.
  • Add Siquijor from Bohol (1 ferry) if you have 2 extra days.

FAQ

Itinerary FAQ

Is two weeks enough for the Philippines? +
Yes for a realistic Palawan plus Visayas combo. The archipelago has over 7,000 islands: in 14 days, two or three well-chosen zones beat ten rushed stops.
How many domestic flights are needed? +
Three: Manila → El Nido, Coron → Cebu (often via Manila) and Bohol → Manila. Ferries handle El Nido-Coron and Cebu-Bohol. Book flights early, they sell out.
Should you see the whale sharks at Oslob? +
It's a personal choice. At Oslob, whale sharks are fed to stay near the boats, which many travellers prefer to avoid. Donsol (in season) offers wild encounters.
Is this itinerary family-friendly? +
Yes if lightened: replace the very early Oslob start with a beach day in Bohol. The Chocolate Hills, tarsiers and Loboc cruise please children.
What's the best period? +
From December to May, dry season. Avoid August-October, typhoon peak which hits Palawan first.
How much does this 2-week trip cost? +
Count around €1,700 backpacker, €2,200 comfort and €4,200 premium, flight from Paris included, per person.
