Adapt by season

Stable climate, flexible escapes

Singapore and the region stay at 26-32°C all year. The wettest window runs November to January. Island escapes (Bintan, Batam) depend mostly on the sea: in swell, favor land escapes (Malacca, Johor). Keep indoor visits for stormy afternoons and beach trips for drier mornings.

Author tips

What I would redo (and change)

✅ Would redo

  • In February 2025, filling the Indonesian Digital Arrival Card 72 h before the Bintan ferry saved a 40-minute queue on arrival. Always sort this document early.
  • Make Singapore the base and radiate out: you sleep clean and safe, and each escape stays 1-3 h away.
  • Keep Malacca for mid-stay: the Peranakan town is a real contrast with the futurism of Marina Bay.

⚠️ Would change

  • Skip Batam if Bintan already filled the beach urge: add a night in Malacca.
  • Swap Johor for a second night in Bintan if you're not travelling with family (Legoland).
  • In rough seas, shift the island escapes to Johor and Malacca, reachable by road.

FAQ

Itinerary FAQ

Is two weeks around Singapore too much? +
No if you use the escapes: 5 days in the city, then Bintan, Batam, Johor and Malacca offer beaches, seafood and Peranakan heritage, never more than 3 h away.
Do you need a passport for the escapes? +
Yes: Bintan and Batam are in Indonesia, Johor and Malacca in Malaysia. Plan the arrival cards (Indonesian digital, SG Arrival Card on return) and a passport valid 6 months.
Is Singapore a good base camp? +
Excellent: safe hotels, efficient MRT, and all escapes leave from central ferries or buses. It's the simplest way to radiate out without constantly changing accommodation.
Is this itinerary family-friendly? +
Yes: Sentosa, the Night Safari, the Bintan resorts and Legoland at Johor please children. Transfers stay short.
What's the best period? +
Year-round (26-32°C). February to April is driest. Island escapes depend on sea conditions, especially November to January.
How much does this 2-week trip cost? +
Count around €2,200 backpacker, €2,800 comfort and €4,800 premium, flight from Paris included, per person.
