How to get around
A month is best done with a rental car picked up in Tunis and returned in Tunis (~€1,000 for 28 days), plus 2 ferries for Kerkennah and Djerba. Budget ~€1,100 of transport over 30 days.
Monthly rental car
~€35/day · the essential freedom over 30 days
Jorf ferry → Djerba
Free · 15 min · or the Roman causeway at El Kantara
Ferry Sfax → Kerkennah
~€10 · 1h15 · several crossings a day
Train (coast option)
€8 Tunis-Sousse · alternative to the car on the Sahel
Camel ride at Douz
€15/h · dunes of the Grand Eastern Erg
Adapt by season
A month crosses every Tunisia: the green north, the coastal Sahel, the Sahara, the islands. From March to May everything is open and temperate (20 to 30 °C), and the almond and orange trees of Cap Bon are in bloom. Autumn (September to November) also works very well, with a still-warm sea. Avoid July-August for the south (over 40 °C) and winter for the north (rainy), though Djerba and the desert stay workable in winter sun.
