Adapt by season

Hajar Mountains or coast, depending on the month

From November to March the whole country works: desert, cities and the Hajar Mountains (Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah) where it stays cooler at altitude. From April to October, keep to air-conditioned urban sights and the east coast (Fujairah), slightly less stifling thanks to the Gulf of Oman. Jebel Jais, the country's highest point, stays 5 to 8°C cooler than the coast all year: a breath of air when it gets hot.

Author tips

What I would redo (and change)

✅ Would redo

  • In December 2024 I flipped the order to end in Fujairah: after ten days of cities and desert, three days of snorkeling on the east coast were the best unwind of the trip.
  • Drive up Jebel Jais in late afternoon: 8°C cooler than the lowlands and a sunset over the Hajar Mountains.
  • Keep a half-day free in Sharjah for Souk Al Arsa, the most genuine in the UAE.

⚠️ Would change

  • Skip Ferrari World if you're not into parks and add a night in Fujairah.
  • Over two weeks in summer, cut the desert and spend more time by the sea at Dibba.
  • Book the Jebel Jais zipline ahead (limited weekend slots).

FAQ

Itinerary FAQ

Can you really see all seven emirates in 14 days? +
Yes, by car. This itinerary covers the five major emirates in depth (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah) and crosses Ajman and Umm Al Quwain on the northern road. Distances stay short: the whole country fits within a 250 km radius.
Do you need a car for this loop? +
Yes from day 5. The North (RAK, Fujairah) and the Liwa desert are not served by public transport. Count €40-55/day, French licence accepted, excellent highways.
Is Sharjah a dry emirate? +
Yes, Sharjah bans alcohol entirely, including in hotels. Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah allow alcohol in licensed venues. Worth keeping in mind when choosing hotels.
Is snorkeling in Fujairah worth the detour? +
Yes. Snoopy Island, near Dibba, offers reefs reachable from the beach, turtles and calmer water than the Gulf. It's the country's best spot without a boat.
What budget for 14 days? +
Count around €2,200 backpacking, €2,900 in comfort and €5,200 premium, flight from Paris and rental car included, per person.
What's the best period? +
November to March, everywhere. The Hajar Mountains stay workable and the desert bearable. Avoid summer (June-September), above 40°C in the lowlands.
