How to get around
In Costa Rica, the rental 4x4 is king: dirt roads, fords and access to remote lodges. Count ~900 km over 14 days, with 2 to 4h legs between stops. A domestic flight back from Osa saves a day.

Adapt by season
The dry season (December to April) guarantees clear skies and easy roads, but it's high season and prices rise. The green season (May to November) offers explosive nature and lower rates: it mostly rains in the late afternoon, leaving mornings dry. The Caribbean side (Tortuguero, Puerto Viejo) is drier in September-October, the opposite of the Pacific.
