How long do you need to visit Mtskheta? +
A half-day is enough. Allow two to three hours for Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, Samtavro Monastery and the climb up to Jvari Monastery. The town is very easy to visit from Tbilisi.
How do you get from Tbilisi to Mtskheta? +
The cheapest way is the marshrutka from Didube station, about 25 minutes for 1 to 2 GEL. By Bolt or taxi, expect 25 to 40 GEL. As Jvari has no public transport, plan a taxi or a tour to reach it.
Do you have to pay to enter Mtskheta's churches? +
No, entry to Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, Samtavro Monastery and Jvari Monastery is free. Modest dress is required, shoulders and knees covered, and a headscarf is appreciated for women.
Is Mtskheta worth the trip? +
