Adapt by season

Two monsoons, two moods

The Seychelles can be visited year-round (25 to 31 °C), but two winds shape the weather. The south-east monsoon (May to September) brings a choppier sea on the east and dry, breezy days, ideal for the western beaches and walking. The north-west monsoon (November to March) is warmer and wetter, with short showers but a flat sea perfect for snorkelling. The shoulder seasons (April and October) are the calmest. The Cat Cocos ferries run 365 days a year.

Author tips

What I would redo (and change)

✅ Would redo

  • In June 2025 I took the 7:30am Cat Cocos to Praslin: calm sea, half-empty ferry, and arrival at Anse Lazio before 10am, still deserted. Morning departures are calmer than the afternoon ones.
  • Rent the bike the moment you reach La Digue: Anse Source d'Argent at dawn, before the excursion boats.
  • Book the Cat Cocos ferries online in advance in high season.
  • Keep a last night on Mahé near the airport to avoid stress on flight day.

⚠️ Would change

  • Add a night on Praslin if you love snorkelling: Curieuse and St Pierre island are worth it.
  • In the south-east monsoon, favour the western beaches, more sheltered from the wind.
  • Skip the car on Mahé and take local buses if your budget is tight.

FAQ

Itinerary FAQ

Do I need a visa for the Seychelles? +
No. An online Seychelles Travel Authorisation is required before departure, applied for on the official portal (around €10), along with a return ticket and booked accommodation. No classic visa.
Is one week enough for the Seychelles? +
Yes for the three main islands (Mahé, Praslin, La Digue), which hold the finest beaches and the Vallée de Mai. To add the secondary islands and more snorkelling, allow 2 weeks.
How do I get between the islands? +
The Cat Cocos fast ferry links Mahé, Praslin and La Digue several times a day, 365 days a year. Allow €56 for Mahé-Praslin and €20 for Praslin-La Digue.
When is the best time? +
April to October, drier and breezier (choppy sea on the east). November to March, warmer and wetter but a flat sea, perfect for snorkelling. April and October are the calmest shoulder seasons.
Are the Seychelles expensive? +
Yes, it is an upscale destination. Accommodation from €70/night in a guesthouse, a Creole meal €15, a 5★ resort over €400. Ferries and local food help keep the budget down.
Should I rent a car? +
On Mahé, yes, to reach the southern beaches. On Praslin, a taxi or bus is enough. On La Digue, everything is done by bike, there are hardly any cars.
