Adapt by season

Pick your coast by the monsoon

Over 14 days, the wind matters. From May to September (south-east monsoon), the sea is choppier on the east of Mahé and Praslin: favour the western beaches and morning boat trips, which are calmer. From November to March (north-west monsoon), the sea is flat, ideal for snorkelling at Curieuse and Cousin, but expect short showers. April and October, between the two monsoons, offer the steadiest conditions. The Cat Cocos ferries run all year.

Author tips

What I would redo (and change)

✅ Would redo

  • In September 2024 I booked the Curieuse trip for 8am: the giant tortoises were active, St José beach deserted, and we were back before the afternoon wind picked up. Go out to sea early in the south-east monsoon.
  • Two nights on Silhouette, road-free and crowd-free: the most preserved island in the archipelago.
  • Four nights on Praslin to roam without repacking: Curieuse, Cousin, Vallée de Mai, all within reach.
  • Bike from dawn on La Digue, before the excursion boats.
  • Keep the last night on Mahé near the airport.

⚠️ Would change

  • Silhouette is pricey: swap it for an extra night on Praslin if your budget is tight.
  • In the south-east monsoon, shift all boat trips to the morning.
  • Book the Cat Cocos ferries online, they fill up in high season.

FAQ

Itinerary FAQ

Do I need a visa for the Seychelles? +
No, but an online Seychelles Travel Authorisation is required before departure, on the official portal (around €10), with a return ticket and booked accommodation.
Are two weeks too long for the Seychelles? +
No if you love beaches and nature: 14 days let you add Silhouette, Curieuse, Cousin and real rest days between islands, without repacking every two days.
How do I get between the islands? +
The Cat Cocos fast ferry links Mahé, Praslin and La Digue several times a day. Silhouette is reached by boat shuttle, Curieuse and Cousin by day trip from Praslin.
When is the best time? +
April to October, drier and breezier. November to March, warmer and wetter but a flat sea for snorkelling. April and October are the calmest shoulder seasons.
What budget for two weeks? +
Allow €3,200 to €4,800 per person including flights at comfort level. The Seychelles remain upscale: ferries and local food help contain the budget.
Can you dive year-round? +
Yes. Visibility is best from April to May and October to November, between the monsoons. Whale sharks are often spotted from August to October around Mahé.
