The essentials
When to go to Türkiye, in brief
April-June and Sept-Oct: the sweet spot
20 to 27°C, clear skies, little rain. The best balance to combine Istanbul, Cappadocia and coasts without the heatwave.
Cappadocia and its balloons
Flights take off year-round in fair weather, but spring and autumn bring the steadiest conditions and the mildest valleys.
The coasts in summer
Antalya, Bodrum and the turquoise coast hit 35-40°C from July to August, sea at 27°C. Great for the beach, but packed and pricey.
Spring in Istanbul
April brings millions of tulips into bloom across the city. Mild temperatures (15-22°C), ideal for walking.
Winter, cool and snowy
Istanbul around 7-12°C and rainy; Cappadocia and Eastern Anatolia under snow. The coasts go quiet.
October, the smart month
The best weather-to-crowd ratio of the year: 20-27°C, sea still warm, uncrowded sites. My favorite slot.
The verdict
The best periods
Apr-June & Sept-Oct
Gentle heat, clear skies, quiet sites. The prime window for the grand loop Istanbul, Cappadocia, Aegean coast. Book 1 to 2 months ahead.
July - August
Top for swimming, but 35-40°C on the coasts, crowds and inflated prices. Tour Istanbul and Cappadocia early morning.
Dec - Feb
Istanbul cool and rainy, Cappadocia snowed in, coasts idle. Except for snow in Anatolia or the city in peace.

Our analysis
Türkiye spans so many climates that you have to think by region. But one rule runs through the country: aim for spring and autumn, April-June and September-October, to enjoy Istanbul, Cappadocia and the coasts without the heatwave or summer crowds.
April-June and September-October, the fine window
This is the prime window. Temperatures sit in the comfortable zone, 20 to 27°C, skies clear and rain grows scarce. In Istanbul, April brings millions of tulips into bloom. In Cappadocia, the valleys are mild and balloon flights at their steadiest. My firm take: if you could pick only one month, make it October, the best weather-to-crowd ratio of the year.
Summer on the coasts
July and August offer ideal swimming, sea at 27°C, but Antalya, Bodrum and the turquoise coast climb to 35-40°C and overflow with tourists. Prices soar. If the beach matters, favor the shoulder seasons: the sea stays warm into October. Inland, tour Istanbul and Cappadocia early morning to dodge the heat.
Winter, a study in contrast
Istanbul turns cool and rainy, around 7-12°C, but the city visits pleasantly in peace. Cappadocia and Eastern Anatolia blanket in snow, offering striking landscapes and balloons over the white. The coasts, meanwhile, go quiet. It is a niche season, for those after the city or the snow, not the beach.
